Gold and Guild Wars
Why is it that gold is so important in it, why do players keep farming it? Grinding the same area over and over and over again, for several hours if not days or even weeks, what do they do when they have 1 million in the storage and maxed out in the inventory? They can buy anything but they usually got everything they need by the time the reach 1 million.
I saw 2 threads here, one was a suggestion / request to allow more gold in the storage, from 1 to 5 million gold, another one was a question if anyone got the material storage full, 250 of every material, one answered something like "I would if it wasn't for these price changes, I would feel bad when I bought 250 ectos and they droped in price about 1k". Yes, it is 250k, but with 1 million gold that isn't much, and you get that really fast. It is a sad thing to see that Guild Wars has become what it is today. Before there were not as much spammers, not as much farmers, more quest parties than today, it is the other way around now. So WHY is farming gold necessary? WHY do they need gold they don't use anyway? |

This is how I figure it: As more and more people finished Prophecies, they became bored and looked for new things to do. One of those more attractive things was to wield nice-looking weapons and to wear nice armor. 15k sets are also a part of this equation; while 15k may not seem like much, it's still rather difficult to accumulate without a single-minded effort.
I digress. Anyway, people must have decided that they'd use the money they'd accumulated to buy whatever they wanted; thus the market for nice-looking and rare items abounded...and we have what we have today. Quite tragic, actually. |

I think its something to do with the size of their e-peen. The people who spend months farming and have stupidly high assets think this increases the size of their e-peen where actually the opposite is true.
The above accounts for most uber-rich farmer types, but the world is full of different people, some of which actually enjoy repetetive grind. |

I'm one of those that reached uberness wealth mark currently down to nothing compared to before. Spent it mostly by giving perfect items to friends.
The novelty of grinding 24/7 wears off and losing most of the wealth is the only way for the insanity to stop. I saw how obsessed I became and noticed my life crumble. |

Personally; I farm cause I always buy every skill for every profession from every campaign. And then the rest is for 15k armors that catch my eye. I'll probablly only be getting 15k armor for my Dervish in Nightfall as Africa really isn't my style.

Maybe if the storyline/gameplay in Cantha was more exciting/replayable, HA wasn't full of gimmicks and predictible FotMs and AB were not a race to see who can touch each other to death fastest, the emphasis would not be on gold farming for shiny weapons and armour. Guild Wars is well past its use-by date now because virtually everything has been done to death. Farming is one of the few pasttimes in the game that is repeatable, fun and brings pleasant surprises here and there.
However, as the game's most popular aspect seems to be farming, the Asian farming community has boomed as more wammos buy gold which floods the economy and prices rise for everyone so that farmers are at a disadvantage for abiding by the rules. Its corrupt, it sucks and Anet aren't doing anything about and neither can we. As everyone tells you when you grow up: 'life's not fair so shut up and get on with it.' /fistshake |

Personally as of late I've become obsessed a bit with farming - well more like coming up with farming builds, just for the fun of it - I never bought anything over 8k from anyone so it's not like I need the gold. |

I think quite a lot of it is bought off ebay as well, my girlfriend was trying to get a run to droks today and saw the following offers come out in Beacons;
lf runner to droks or granite, ill pay up to 20k 40k to grotto or 15k to granite I refuse to believe someone sane (who earned their gold) would pay that much for that run. |

Comon, the answer is too simple. =D People farm because they like money. I mean, who doesn't like to have money in their storage. It's just nice to have. And oh, you don't necessarily have to grind* to get money. If you're experienced with money making, then you'll have no prob. If you found out a very nice quick way to make money, would you take advantage of it, or just leave it alone? And some people farm a lot to get enough money to get very nice things like crystalline. Also, you said that its become a sad thing that people in guild wars are getting rich? Why is that? After a while, people are bound to get richer. Players like me, also like to have plenty of money and not be on the edge* if you know what I mean. I tend to farm to keep up with all the stuff I buy. I think ppl farm for something to do. To keep playing the game when other things are not as interesting to do anymore.
But I also think that ppl like to accumulate as much money and cool items because in the game world they can. Who wants to play like they live thier real life, where most of us never quite have as much money as we want or need, and never enough cool stuff? |

sheesh if u guys are bored with the game why can't you just wait for nightfall or the next part to come out and play another game that you can actually control the attacks (which i personally hate about this game) and button smash the controller...play something fun like super smash brothers or devil may cry or something.... This game rocks...but it shouldn't be the only game u play...
